Stede Bonnet (1688 – 1718) was a Barbadian-born pirate known as the 'Gentleman Pirate'. Despite being born into a wealthy English family on the island of Barbados & inheriting the family estate, Bonnet decided to turn to piracy in the early 1700s. With hardly any sailing experience, he bought a vessel and named it the Revenge, and sailed along the Eastern Seaboard of what is now the United States, capturing and plundering other vessels. Along the way, he met Edward Teach, better known as the infamous pirate Blackbeard....
